About Michelle
Mayor pro tem Michelle Lopez is serving her first term as the Kyle City Council District 1 Representative after winning the May 2007 election. District 1 is an at-large district.
As a proud resident of Kyle since 1998, Ms. Lopez has been an active member of the community. Her involvement and leadership roles in a variety of community organizations and committees have provided her a comprehensive understanding of the duties each member of council assumes upon election. She has taken this opportunity to serve all of Kyle’s citizens very seriously and has pledged her commitment to fulfill those responsibilities to secure Kyle’s prominence in the state of Texas.
Ms. López’s service history prior to her election included:
- Chair, Kyle City Charter Review Commission (2005)
- Commission Member, Hays County Historical Commission (2005-2007)
- Board Member, United Way of Hays County (since 2007)
- Treasurer, The Trails Homeowners’ Association (2005-2007)
- President Elect, St. Anthony Marie Claret Ladies Altar Society (2007-2009)
- Secretary, St. Anthony Marie Claret Pastoral Council (2004-2007)
- Chair, Diocese of Austin Capital Campaign for St. Anthony Marie Claret parish (2006)
- First Vice President, Former Students Association of Texas Woman’s Univ. (2005-2007)
- Second Vice President, Austin Alumnae Panhellenic Association (2005-2006)
- Secretary, Austin Alumnae Panhellenic Association (2006-2007)
Her commitment to the City of Kyle has continued as an elected official. During her three-year term, she has served as Mayor pro tem for two of those years and organized the creation of a legislative agenda for the City of Kyle during the 2009 Texas Legislative Session. Ms. López has also held Council Chats a minimum of three times each year to provide opportunities for residents to directly share with her their concerns.
Councilmember López is also among the first graduates of the Kyle Leadership Academy, the only council member, to date, to have participated in and completed the program. She received a Certificate of Recognition from the Texas Municipal League (TML) for completing 42 Continuing Education Units in 2008 and has been a presenter at the annual TML conference.
Additionally, her commitment to Kyle has led her to serve her constituents and contribute in numerous ways to bring Kyle recognition within Hays County and the state through the following endeavors

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Ms. López holds a B.S. in Government with a minor in Spanish from Texas Woman’s University in Denton. She received a M.Ed. in College Student Affairs from Texas State University-San Marcos (formerly known as Southwest Texas State University) and is currently a doctoral student in Higher Education Administration at Texas A&M University in College Station.
Ms. López has 17 years of experience in higher education working in the areas of campus activities, leadership development, Greek life, college union administration, residence life and teaching (both graduate and undergraduate courses). She holds several professional memberships, including the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE), Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA) and Association of College Unions International (ACUI).
Married to Ruben, her husband of 13 years, they have been blessed with the addition of a son to their family. Along with their 2 “furry” children, blue heelers, Jake and Samantha, the López family of five is pleased to be a part of the Kyle community.
